Do you want to become a part of what might be Roskilde’s most international and cozy volunteer team?

We run a deposit refund station at Roskilde Festival, where we count and sort deposits – and most importantly: we have a great time.

We bring together young people from the Danish and German minorities, other European minorities, and anyone else who simply wants to be part of something great. This means you are guaranteed to meet people from exciting cultures with different stories. It all happens naturally over a cup of coffee or a can of beer, a break in the shade, or right in the middle of the chaos of bottles and cans.

Good vibes first – work second

The deposit refund station is a place full of laughter, music, small talk, and new friendships. The work is important, yes – but the community and the good vibe always come first. It’s a chill, safe place to hang out, connect with others, and enjoy the festival together.

In our private volunteer area, you can relax, grab a cold beer, and enjoy breakfast every day. As a volunteer, you also receive food vouchers that can be used around the festival grounds, so you can recharge between concerts and shifts.

No experience required

All you need to do is show up with good energy – we’ll teach you the rest.

  • Fill out the registration form
  • Add your People profile number (or create a profile)
  • Sign the volunteer contract and send it to: roskildefestival@sdu.de

What is People?

People is the festival’s volunteer database. All volunteers must register here, and this is where you will be assigned to SdU’s refund station. Sign up here: https://people-vol.roskilde-festival.dk/bliv-frivillig/.
It’s through People that you’ll receive your wristband and can find your shift schedule. You can view your schedule in Heap360, which you can find a link to in People.

What is our task at the festival?

We are responsible for a refund station, where festival guests bring their collected returnables to our station and have the value transferred. We receive the returnable containers, count them, and sort them. The festival ensures the containers are collected and recycled. You can get a deposit on cans, bottles, cardboard handles, shot glasses, pitchers, cups, etc.

Camping for Volunteers – Not sure where to pitch your tent?

Last year, we had a shared camp for volunteers so we were guaranteed a camping spot when arriving at the festival. Our camp was at Roskilde Roadtrip, close to the festival site.

We’re trying to do the same again this year and get a shared camping area. We’ll keep you posted by email once there’s any news about camping.

You can already sign up if you’d like to camp together with the other volunteers.

How many hours will I have to work?

Roskilde Festival has a rule that all volunteers must work a total of 32 hours. We have chosen to use 8‑hour shifts, so everyone will work 4 shifts of 8 hours each.

What benefits do I get as a volunteer with SdU?

As a volunteer with SdU, we offer you a cozy brunch every morning in our volunteer tent, Valhalla. Valhalla is our common meeting place, which also has a small bar (with student-friendly prices). Additionally, we host a welcome party for all volunteers, which helps build our great community.
All volunteers will also receive 4 meal vouchers that can be used at the festival’s delicious food stalls!

How much music will I miss?

Typically, two of your shifts will be during the warm-up days, and two will be during the music days. At least one of your shifts will be at a time when music is playing, which means in the afternoon/evening period from Wednesday to Saturday.

Can I choose my shifts? Can I work with my friends?

We want to distribute the shifts as fairly as possible. Therefore, we will assign the shifts. It is not first come, first served, and we cannot guarantee that you will see all your favorite acts. Of course, we still try to do everything we can to accommodate you as much as possible. You will be able to submit your shift preferences in May/June. We will contact you when it’s time to choose your shifts.

How is the work divided?

All volunteers will be working at the refund station, receiving, counting, and sorting the returnable containers into bags and boxes.

We have a small group of shift leaders, who are more experienced volunteers from previous years. They ensure that the work is divided fairly and that the check-in and check-out of goods is documented and signed. There are always at least two shift leaders on a shift.

Additionally, we have a group of 8 volunteers, known as the workgroup, who maintain contact with the festival’s organizers, communicate information to the volunteers, buy supplies for breakfast, create the shift schedule, and handle any loose ends during the festival.

I´ll be turning 18 during the festival. Can I still volunteer with you?

Yes! As long as you turn 18 before your first scheduled shift starts, you can absolutely join us.

What skills should I have?

You don’t need any special know-how. We´ll train you as a group and we will make sure that you are well prepared for all the different tasks.

We make a great deal out of being social and fostering our community. Though, it’s just an invitation, not an obligation

Where is the refund station?

The refund station is located in Camping South.

I am not a Danish/EU citizen. Can I still volunteer with you?

We would love to have as many different cultures and languages as possible on our team. However, there are labor laws and festival-specific rules. As a general rule, you must be an EU citizen or otherwise have the right to work in Denmark.

If you have any further questions, feel free to contact us at roskildefestival@sdu.de
